Nasi Samiy, M.D.
Nasi Samiy, M.D. is a board-certified retina specialist. He completed his undergraduate degree with honors at Harvard College. While at Harvard, he won the prestigious Olney Fellowship to do basic science research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory under the directorship of Nobel Prize-winner James Watson. He attended medical school at Boston University where he received the Hewlett-Packard Award for "top medical graduate." He completed his medicine internship at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital and remained at Harvard Medical School for ophthalmology residency and fellowship training in vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery. Following clinical training, Dr. Samiy went into private practice and in 2001 founded Retina Institute of the Carolinas. Dr. Samiy has had numerous publications and has lectured internationally. He has been an official speaker for Novartis and for Transkaryotic Therapies. He has also served as an investigator in pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical trials.
Arman Farr, M.D.
Arman Farr, M.D. is a board-certified retina specialist. He attended the University of Pennsylvania for his undergraduate studies. He graduated with honors receiving the prestigious Pew Research Fellowship and performed advanced biological research at Princeton University. He attended the Duke University School of Medicine during which time he continued his interest in medical research. He was awarded a fellowship by the American Diabetes Association for his research in diabetic retinopathy and went on to receive the coveted Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society Award. His interest in diabetic retinopathy led him to residency in ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He received the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician Recognition Award during his residency. He followed his residency with fellowship training in both pediatric ophthalmology and vitreoretinal disorders at Johns Hopkins, receiving the prestigious Heed Foundation Award. Following his fellowship, he joined the faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina as the Director of the Retina Service prior to joining Retina Institute of the Carolinas. He has published over two dozen peer-reviewed articles, several book chapters, and has lectured nationally and internationally. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists and remains very active in the field of retina, continuing his research efforts into new treatments. He serves as a guest reviewer for the Journal of VitreoRetinal Diseases. He also teaches medical students and resident physicians and holds the position of Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. His areas of interest include age related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, pediatric vitreoretinal disorders, retinal detachment, and traumatically injured eyes.
Charles L. Tucker, MD, FACS
Charles “Len" Tucker, MD, FACS is a board-certified retina specialist. He is also a summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wofford College. He received his Medical Degree with honors from the Medical University of South Carolina, receiving the prestigious Thomas Savage Scholarship as the Outstanding Member of his class. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Callahan Eye Hospital of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, receiving awards for research and as the Outstanding Resident Teacher. He performed his fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery with Retina Specialists of Alabama and UAB, completing research fellowships with the Helen Keller Foundation and the American Society of Ocular Trauma. A board-certified retina specialist, he has lectured nationally and internationally and has authored and co-authored many publications. He was an early adopter and proponent of “no face-down” macular hole repair and was a participant in the European Vitreo-Retinal Society Macular Hole Study Group which validated that approach. Dr. Tucker treats all areas of vitreoretinal disease but has particular interest in Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Macular Holes, Macular Pucker, Retinal Detachment, and Ocular Trauma. A native of Florence, SC, he has lived in Fort Mill since 2006 with his wife and three children. He enjoys spending time with his family and is an avid kayaker.
